Steve Odland, the Chairman and CEO of Office Depot, indicated that Office
Depot and Office Depot China will make a joint effort to develop in the
Chinese market after Office Depot announced that it has acquired Office
Depot China, one of the largest e-commerce enterprises providing services
and goods for offices in China.
At present, China has the biggest office supplies market. More than
300 million people are involved in this market, and the annual consumption
of office supplies in Beijing, Shanghai and Pearl River Delta accounts
for over 50% of total consumption of office supplies. In this case, the
office supplies industry is transferring from wholesale and retail trade
to chains. E-commerce has made rapid development in China. Office Depot,
a Fortune 500 company, acquired Office Depot China, aiming to enter the
Chinese market as soon as possible. China's annual sales of office supplies
are predicted to reach $25 billion. Therefore, with the sustained development
of economy, Chinese office suppliers are forming a potential market. More
and more global office supplies giants press on with entering the Chinese
market, so it is inevitable to face reshuffling in office supplies industry.
